Simonton Window Sash Balance Retrofit Repair

Six Simonton windows had failed sash balances, causing the sashes to drop instead of remaining open at the desired height. Because the original balance components had been discontinued, the repair required locating compatible retrofit hardware rather than installing direct manufacturer replacements.
Each sash was removed and weighed to determine the correct balance strength. Compatible replacement components were sourced online, including 8.5-pound Series 159 coil balances, 3/4-inch single coil supports, replacement pivot shoes, and 2-1/2-inch pivot bars. Each of the six windows required a balanced assembly on both sides of the sash for even support and proper operation. The new retrofit components were installed, adjusted, and tested within the existing Simonton window assemblies.
Before the repair, the six window sashes would not stay in place because their original balance systems were no longer supporting the weight properly. Updated hardware was selected based on the measured sash weight and fitted to replace the discontinued components. After both sides of each window were rebuilt and tested, the sash balance was restored across all six windows. The windows now open, close, and remain at the desired height as intended.
